February 2015 Library Events

LEGO Club - Monday, February 2 and 16 at 4:30 p.m.


Give our LEGO blocks a workout making anything from a dinosaur to a spaceship.  Work in teams or individually, give your creation a name, then see it displayed in the Children's Library.

Adult Crafter-Night: A Tasty Decoration - Monday, February 2 from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

What a good idea --  a Valentine decoration that looks cute and offers a simple treat to everyone who passes it!  Check out the sample on display at the adult service desk.  All materials will be supplied and directions will be available for you to take home.  Registration is required.

Story Time with Ms. Denise - Wednesdays at 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Escape those cold, blustery February days and warm up at Story Time with Ms. Denise! Mornings are for babies and toddlers, afternoons are for all ages . . . and both follow these super-fun themes!

Houseplant Propagation - Thursday, February 5 at 3 p.m.

Are you longing for some green in your life? Join Chrissy Wen from the UW Extension as she leads us in a hands-on workshop where participants will learn and practice how to take cuttings from some common houseplants. Plants propagated will be your to take home and enjoy! Space is limited, so sign up today!   Registration is required.

Tech Tutorials - Wednesdays from 9:30 to 11 a.m.

Baffled by technology? Sign up for a 45-minute one-on-one session with a librarian for assistance with anything computer-related, such as downloading ebooks and audiobooks, filling out online applications,signing up or managing email, or learning to use Microsoft office software.  Bring in your own device or use one of the library computers.  Registration is required.

Knit and Crochet Club - Contact the library for more information

For all ages and experience levels, Knit and Crochet Club meets at 6 p.m. on the scheduled dates.  Bring your own project to work on, share your expertise, and learn from others.

Great Decisions Discussion Group - Tuesdays beginning February 3 from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

Great Decisions is America's largest discussion program on world affairs. Join two local residents as they lead discussions on some of the most critical global issues facing America today:  Russia and the near abroad, privacy in the digital age, sectarianism in the Middle East, India changes course, US policy toward Africa, Syria's refugee crisis, human trafficking in the 21st Century, and Brazil's metamorphosis.  Please contact June Yantis (262-245-2575) or Galin Berrier (262-740-0465) to register and obtain materials.  Registration is required.

Tail Waggin' Tutors - Saturday, February 7 at 10 a.m.

Make an appointment to read to with a therapy dog the first Saturday of each month. Stop by the Children's Desk or call 262-728-3111 Ext. 117 to reserve your time slot!  Registration is required.

Book Boogie - Monday, February 9 and 23 at 11 a.m.

You put your left foot in, you put your left foot out . . . that's what Book Boogie is all about! What could be more fun for babies, toddlers, and their adults than a free-form story, dance, and play time at the library! Books, songs, and fun things to play with and explore will all be provided.  All that's missing is you!

Judy Blume Celebration - Tuesday, February 10 at 4 p.m.

Join us to celebrate one of our favorite authors: JUDY BLUME! Snacks will be provided.

Author Visit - Tuesday, February 17 at 6 p.m.

Local author Lowell Sweet will be here to explain the writing process and experiences that went into developing this thriller, Master Plan.

Coop: A Year of Poultry, Pigs, and Parenting by Michael Perry
In over his head with two pigs, a dozen chickens, and a baby due any minute, Perry gives us a humorous, heartfelt memoir of a new life in the country.

Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day (PG)
Judith Viorst's acclaimed children's book is brought to the big screen! This tale recounts a day in the life of a grumpy young boy who has everything go wrong, all in one day.

Guilty Pleasures Book Club - Monday, February 23 at 6 p.m.

Shadow of Night by Deborah Harkness
In Elizabethan London, Oxford scholar and reluctant witch Diana Bishop seeks a magical tutor, while vampire geneticist Matthew Clairmont confronts elements from his past at the same time the mystery of the enchanted manuscript Ashmole 782 deepens.

Foster Care: We Need Your Help - Tuesday, February 24 at 12 p.m.

Become a foster parent or respite provider today! In Wisconsin alone, approximately 8,000 children are placed into foster care each year. Lutheran Social Services needs you to join in the effort to make a difference for these youth. Attend this presentation to find out more. LSS provides specialized training, 24/7 support, respite care, case coordination, and more so that you can help make a difference in a child's life. Respite providers who can offer weekend or short-term care are also needed. Do you have a heart for children? Can you provide them with a safe and caring place to call home? A stipend is provided to help cover the cost. The need is great throughout the state!

Quilts from Mom's House II - Tuesday, February 24 from 1:30 to 3 p.m.

As promised, Nancy Snyder from the Stitchery in Delavan will be back to present Quilts from Mom's House II. Nancy's presentation will include a discussion of all things quilt-related! The highlight will be a 'trunk show' of the many vintage treasures her parents have collected through the years and the stories behind the quilts! Join us on the library's main level to share this fun experience! Since this has been one of our most well-attended programs, please drop by or phone the library in advance to let us know we can save a chair for you!

Dry Beans in Your Diet - Wednesday, February 25 from 2 to 3 p.m.

Maybe Jack really knew the secret of magical beans! Dry beans are an excellent addition to your diet. Not sure where to start? Join us for an informational workshop on health benefits and delicious samples of foods created with dry beans. Presented by your Walworth County UW-Extension Family Living Educator Jenny Wehmeier. Register early to ensure enough samples for all! Deadline for registration is February 20, or when the class is full.

Tween/Teen: Brick Bookends - Thursday, February 26 at 6 p.m.

Looking for an inexpensive, stylish way to display your books, DVDs, or magazines? Why not use a brick? But not just any brick: a brick that you--yes, you--decorate yourself with magazine clippings, glitter, paint . . . anything you want! You can even decorate one for us to use here at the library! All materials will be provided. Just bring your creativity!

Winter is here! If you're looking for a good book to read or an interesting program to attend, Aram Library is definitely the place to come. And if the spirit moves you to stay in out of the cold and begin your spring cleaning early, we'd like to remind you that the Friends continue to welcome your gently-used books, movies, music, and games! New donations are added to our perpetual sale shelves near the entrance (where the tax forms are available as well) and to our special carts on the main level!

For those of you who remember last year's program, we have a special treat in store for you.
