November 2008 Calendar

Activities scheduled at the Aram Public Library in November 2008 are:

Tiny Tots Time - Tuesdays at 10 a.m.
Babies age 0-2 learn and play with their parents/caregivers.

Preschool Story time - Fridays at 10 a.m.
Preschoolers have a lot to be thankful for, and this month we're celebrating sandwiches, Teddy bears, and pie!

Library Board Meeting - Thursday, November 13 at 4 p.m.

Fall Into Beauty - Thursday, November 13 at 7 p.m.
This adult makeover program features beauty advice from the professional staff at Michael Martin Salon. Please call the library to register (728-3111).

Book Discussion - Thursday, November 20 at 7 p.m.
This month's selection is The Secret Life of Houdini by William Kalush and Larry Sloman. This is a new take on Houdini's life, including the passions that drove him to perform ever-more-dangerous feats, his secret life as a spy, and a plot to subvert his legacy. This is the last discussion of 2008. Bring your suggestions for next year's book discussions.

Food for Fines - All month, from November 1 through November 29, receive $1 off your overdue fines for each nonperishable food item you bring in. All food collected will be donated to the Delavan Food Pantry. Food for Fines may not be applied to fees for damaged or lost items, nor will credit be given toward future fines. Food donations from those with no fines will be gratefully accepted.

The library will be closed on November 27 and 28. Happy Thanksgiving!

The Great Pumpkin?

Charlie Brown may be waiting for a long time to see the Great Pumpkin rise in the sky on Halloween night. But YOU won't have to wait . . . create your own Great Pumpkin at APL's family pumpkin carving extravaganza! We'll supply you with a cleaned pumpkin and carving tools. You supply the creativity and, voila! The GREAT PUMPKIN is yours to take home.

Not sure what you want to do with your pumpkin? We'll have lots of ideas from books and magazines for you to look at. But the best ideas are always YOURS. Be original, use your imagination, make your pumpkin look like your best friend, your dog or cat, or the Incredible Hulk.

And when your work is done, enjoy a delicious cup of hot apple cider and have your picture taken for our Great Pumpkin Wall of Fame.

Trick or Treat!

Halloween is fast approaching . . . but we're ready for any goblins that might appear at the library. We've done our research (librarians are good at research) and discovered that the way to banish Halloween creatures is to scare them with candy!
There's a surprise in store for any costumed kids appearing in the children's library on October 31 between 3 and 6 p.m. So, don't forget to make the Aram Public Library a sweet stop on your Halloween trick-or-treat trail.
