September 2009 Library Events

September is National Library Card Sign-up Month!
Libraries play an important role in the education and development of children. Studies show that children who are read to in the home and who use the library perform better in school and are more likely to continue to use the library as a source of lifetime learning. Your library card is easily the most important card in your wallet, and the most important school supply for children.

Aram Public Library cards are free to most Wisconsin residents. We require some form of identification, proof of residency and, for minors, the signature of a guardian.

Baby Story Time – Tuesdays at 9 a.m. (Sept. 8-Oct. 27)
You’re never too young for story time. Non-walkers and their caregivers are welcome in the library to interact with others while promoting early learning and a love of reading.

Tiny Tots Time – Tuesdays at 10 a.m. (Sept. 8-Dec. 18)
This program brings toddlers and caregivers together for an hour of stimulating experiences intended to nurture the bond between caregiver and child and to increase the caregiver’s awareness of their child’s development.

Preschool Story Time – Fridays @ 10 a.m. (Sept.11-Dec. 21)
Help your child prepare for school while having fun too! Meaningful literacy activities, such as reading, singing and playing with children, can impact a child’s brain development and subsequently help provide them with the pre-reading skills they need to start school.

Library Board Meeting - Thursday, September 10 at 4 p.m.

Foreign Film – Tuesday, September 8 at 6:30 p.m.
Osama (Rated PG, 83 minutes) tells the story of a young girl in Taliban-ruled Afghanistan who must disguise herself as a boy to save her family from starvation.

Book Discussion – Thursday, September 17 at 7 p.m.
The Attack by Yasmina Khadra
Amin Jaafari, an Israeli-Arab, is a contented man. Happily married and a respected surgeon, he has chosen to heal, not to fight. Suddenly his world explodes. His beloved wife is killed in a suicide bombing, and the police believe she was the bomber.
Anyone who has read the book is welcome to attend.

Résumé Writing Workshop – Tuesday, September 22 at 1 p.m.
Walk away with a finished résumé from this hands-on résumé design and preparation session in our computer lab. Bring information about your education and employment history and get expert advice and personal assistance from the Walworth County Job Center. Please bring a flash drive or other means to save your work. Registration required.

Champagne Life on a Beer Budget – Monday, September 28 at 6:30 p.m.
