September 2013 Library News

The Library will be closed September 2 for Labor Day.

School-year library hours begin September 3:
Monday - Thursday      9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Friday                          9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Saturday                           9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Sunday                             1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Computers shut down 1/2 hour before closing.
 

Story Time with Miss Kris - Wednesdays at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

It's that time of year -- time for leaves to change color, time for yummy apples, and time to have fun at the library with Miss Kris!
Friday story times have been discontinued, but we have TWO fantastic programs on Wednesdays.  Mornings are for babies and toddlers, afternoons are for preschoolers, and both programs follow these fun themes: 
  • September 11 - At the Zoo
  • September 18 - Four Seasons
  • September 25 - Musical Instruments

Tail Waggin' Tutors - Saturday, September 7 at 10 a.m.

Yes, dog lovers -- Divot is coming back to hear more stories!  Make an appointment to spend some time reading with him the first Saturday of each month.  Stop by the Children's Desk to reserve your time slot!  Registration is required. 

Home Health and Hospice Care - Tuesday, September 10 at 1:30 p.m.

This program, presented by Katie Stumpf of Mercy Home Health and Hospice, explores the use of home health care services and hospice care. Learn what these services are, when to use then, and how they benefit both patients and families in this free workshop.  Registration is required.

Exploration Art Studio - Tuesday, September 10 at 4:30 p.m.

Exploration Art Studio is back! This month, we'll be working with paint.  We'll provide all the necessary materials . . . you provide the creativity.  And remember, dress to get messy!

Locker Beautification (Tweens/Teens) - Thursday, September 12 at 6 p.m.

Does your locker look dull and boring?  Are you embarrassed to be seen standing next to it? Don't settle for  an ordinary locker! Give your locker a makeover with some fabulous new adornments created by the greatest personal stylist: YOU!

Roald Dahl Birthday Party - Saturday, September 14 at 1 p.m.

Join us in celebrating one of our very favorite authors: ROALD DAHL! There will be food, crafts, games. . . and, of course, more than a fair share of nonsense.

Exercise and Diet for Diabetics - Tuesday, September 17 at 1:30 p.m.

If you have diabetes, you are not alone. Millions of people today have diabetes. Eating for good health and staying active are both important in the management of this disease. Learn about diet and exercise strategies for the diabetic patient in this free workshop presented by a Mercy Health Systems diabetes educator. Registration is required. 

Talk Like a Pirate Day - Thursday, September 19

Aaargh! Pirates have invaded the library in search of some buried treasure and yer invited to join the fun. Come below deck and show the scurvy lasses yer best piratey self.  Make an eye patch. Would ya like a tattoo? Shur ya would! Sing, dance, maybe tell a pirate joke or two! Will ya walk the plank or share the treasure?!

Aram Book Club: Behind the Beautiful Forevers by Katherine Boo - Thursday, September 19 at 6:30 p.m. 

Katherine Boo spent three years among the residents of the Annawadi slum, a settlement of huts and shacks in the shadow of Mumbai's International Airport. Boo takes us all around the community, introducing us to a slew of unforgettable characters who all nurture far-fetched dreams of a better life. She profiles the everyday life of a Muslim teen, an ambitious rural mother, and a young scrap metal thief, illuminating how their efforts to build better lives are challenged.

Banned Books Week - September 22-28

Banned Books Week is an annual event celebrating the freedom to read. Stop by the library to exercise that freedom! 

Book Boogie for Babies and Toddlers - Monday, September 23 at 2 p.m.

Words and wiggles go together like peanut butter and jelly in this special story time for babies and toddlers (and their grown-ups, of course). Read, dance, repeat!

Cardiac Health for Women - Tuesday, September 24 at 1:30 p.m. 

Most women think the signs of a heart attack are unmistakable, but in fact they can be subtle and sometimes confusing.  Let Drs. Jeffrey Kowalski and Mike Oulashian from the Mercy Elkhorn Clinic teach you how to keep your heart healthy, identify and manage your risk factors, and know when to call the doctor.   Registration is required.

Pizza and a Movie: Wreck It Ralph (PG) - Saturday, September 28 at 11 a.m.

For decades, Ralph has played the bad guy in his popular video game. In a bold move, he embarks on an action-packed adventure and sets out to prove to everyone that he is a true hero with a big heart. As he explores exciting new worlds, he teams up with some unlikely new friends. Then, when an evil army threatens their world, Ralph realizes he holds the fate of the entire arcade in his massive hands. Sign up beings Wednesday, September 25.  Registration is required.  

Guilty Pleasures Book Club: Faefever by Karen Marie Moning - Monday, September 30 at 6 p.m.
