February 2014 Library Events

February 1 is Take Your Child to the Library Day!

Come one, come all to Aram Public Library for Take Your Child to the Library Day!  We'll have stories, crafts, food, prizes, and more.  The entire day will be filled with fun, so be sure to stop by!

Storytime with Ms. Denise - Wednesdays at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Though the weather is cold, you can stay cozy and warm having fun with Ms. Denise at library story time!  Mornings are for babies and toddlers, afternons are for preschoolers, and both programs follow these fun themes:
  • February 5 - Hugs and Kisses
  • February 12 - Valentine's Day
  • February 19 - Animals in Winter
  • February 26 - Bubbles and Bath Time!

LEGO Club - Monday, February 3 at 4:30 p.m.

Give our LEGO blocks a workout building anything from a dinosaur to a spaceship.  Work in teams or individually, give your creationa name, then see it displayed in the Children's Library.

Getting Started with Pinterest - Tuesday, February 4 at 6 p.m.

What in the world is Pinterest and what's with all these "Pin It" buttons on your favorite websites?  Join us for a beginner's course in the wide, wonderful world of Pinterest.  Isn't it time you joined in the fun?  Registration is required.

Totally Retro 80's and 90's for Tweens and Teens - Thursday, February 6 at 6 p.m.

The 80's and 90's are totally cool.  Like, for real.  Come to the library for some awesome music, games, and shows from two wicked cool decades.   You can even rock some stylin' gear, if you want.  This you're too cool to dress up?  As if!

Laura Ingalls Wilder Celebration - Saturday, February 8 at 10 a.m.

Winter Wonderland: Snow Globe Craft - Sunday, February 9 at 1:30 p.m.

Tired of walking in a -- brrrrrrr -- winter wonderland!  Here's a way to enjoy the snowy scenery without freezing your tootsies: make your own personalized snow globe.  We'll provide the basic supplies.  Feel free to bring any special items you'd like to include in your Winter Wonderland.

Such a Card! Paper Creations - Tuesday, February 11, at 4:30 p.m.

Homemade cards are so much more meaningful, don't you think? Come by the library to create a card of your very own.  All materials provided.

Anime for Adults:  Shiki (Rated TV-MA, age 17+) - Saturday, February 15 at 1 p.m. 

When citizens of a secluded village begin dying off in alarming numbers, the sole hospital's head doctor tries desperately to save his patients, but his efforts are in vain. Entire families are wiped out while others desert their homes. Aram Book Club: Lost Girls: an Unsolved American Mystery by Robert Kolker - Thursday, February 20 at 6:30 p.m.

In Lost Girls, Kolker examines five young female murder victims and the lives they led, along with the aspects of the case much of the media missed at the time.  The result is a revealing inside look under the surface of American society as Kolker uncovers personal failures, callousness and incompetence.

Craft-er-noon - Friday, February 21 from 1 to 4 p.m.

Unleash your inner artist and create!  We'll give you free rein of the library's craft supplies to make anything you like.  The sky's the limit!

Jewelry Class: Tree of Life Pendant - Saturday, February 22 at 1 p.m.

The Tree of Life in religion, myth, and mysticism, represents the interconnectedness of al life.  Made of intertwined wires in a round frame, the Tree of Life pendant depicts all parts of the tree and can be customized with beads of your choosing.  All materials will be provided.  Registration is required.

Baby and Toddler Book Boogie - Monday, February 24 at 11 a.m.

Get your hokey pokey on, baby!  Parents and caregivers, bring your littlest ones to this storytime-dance party mash-up that pairs words and wiggles.  We'll alternate favorite stories with plenty of music and movement Read, Dance, Repeat!

Guilty Pleasures Book Club: High Five by Janet Evanovich - Monday, February 24 at 6 p.m.

Bounty hunter Stephanie Plum and her usual cohorts search for 72-year-old Uncle Fred who has a drawer full of photographs of body parts.

Sensational Soups - Tuesday, February 25 at 2 p.m.  Registration is Required.

This class filled up so quickly in January we decided to hold a second session.  Taught by Jenny Wehmeier, UW Extension Family Living Educator, this informational workshop covers how soup is part of a healthy diet, soup-making tips, and how to create tasty soups.  What's the difference between bisque, bouillabaisse, and borscht?  Come to this workshop and find out.  Samples and recipes included.
