HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

English Conversation Group – Wednesdays @ 1 p.m.

For students learning English as a second language, this is a chance for you to practice everyday conversation skills.

Tiny Tots Time – Tuesdays at 10 a.m.
Babies in the library – that’s what Tiny Tots is all about! Tiny Tots Time, designed for children ages 0-2, is a program that brings caregivers and babies together for an hour of stimulating experiences intended to nurture the bond between caregiver and child. The program includes nursery rhymes and songs, book sharing, parenting information, and free play.

 

Preschool Story Time – Fridays at 10 a.m.

Help your preschooler get ready to read. Share books, stories, rhymes, music, and movement with your children and build language skills. Preschool children and their parents or caregivers are invited to join us for story time on Fridays at 10 a.m. Activities are age-appropriate for children from age 3 through Kindergarten, and each program includes a variety of activities. The program is free and registration is not required, but caregivers are expected to stay with children.

Documentary Film – Tuesday, November 2 @ 3:30 p.m.

Wisconsin Vietnam War Stories (A 3-part series, 3 hrs.)

A partnership of the Wisconsin Historical Society and Wisconsin Public Television, in association with the Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs, this film includes the stories of dozens of veterans from all regions of Wisconsin -- stories of triumph and loss in the field of duty, companionship in the ranks and the "welcome home" they never received.

Make a No-Sew Tote Bag – Thursday, November 4 @ 6:30 p.m.
A green alternative to plastic or paper, the no-sew tote bag is easy for anyone to make. This simple, useful, and fashionable accessory is sure to please everyone on your holiday gift list. It’s also a super bag to carry on your shopping trips – or fill it with presents and use it as a gift bag! Please bring 1 yard of heavyweight fabric (canvas, vinyl, oilcloth or upholstery fabric) and 1-1/2 to 2 yards of 1” wide webbing for straps. Registration required.

Library Board Meeting – Monday, November 1 @ 4 p.m.

UFO Club – Monday, November 8 @ 6:30 p.m. and Thursday, November 18 @ 2 p.m.
Our former Knitting Club is expanding to include other yarn junkies and crafters! Bring your Un-Finished Objects and get together with other time-crunched crafters to work on your current projects.

Knitting Class – Mondays, November 8 & 15 @ 6:30 p.m.
Just when your neck was getting cold, learn the cable stitch and wrap yourself in a homemade warm and cozy scarf. Please bring 1 pair of size 9 straight needles, and 1 skein light-colored worsted yarn. Registration required.

Computer Class: Twitter– Thursday, November 11 @ 1:30 p.m.
Tweets aren’t just for the birds. Learn the ins and outs of this real-time information network powered by people all around the world. Set up a Twitter account and begin sharing what’s happening in your world. This class is intended for adults with basic computer skills. Class size is limited; registration required.

Mother-Daughter Altered Shoes Project – Saturday, November 13 @ 1:30 p.m.

Let your creative genius go to your feet at this exciting craft program. Deck out your plain Mary-Janes in rhinestones and flowers, make your sneakers glow-in-the-dark, or transform your flip-flops into a work of modern art. Bring a pair of shoes to decorate. For age 13+.

My Year in Thailand – Tuesday, November 16 @ 7 p.m.
Sponsored by the Friends of Aram Public Library, this program features local resident Suzanne Nelson sharing her photos, experiences, and thoughts about her year in Thailand. This program is free of charge and open to the public.

Book Discussion – Thursday, November 18 @ 7:00 p.m.
Voluntary Madness by Norah Vincent
This book documents Vincent’s immersion-journalism experience as a psychiatric patient. Her voluntary commitment as a woman with a history of depression began as an investigation into psychiatric practices and questionable diagnoses. The experience, however, morphed into a personal exploration of mental stability. In this sometimes harrowing and sometimes humorous account, Vincent recalls her stay at three mental-health facilities. She chronicles not just the social and economic differences in illnesses and treatments at the facilities but also the madness of bureaucracies that overmedicate and don’t listen enough to what patients have to say. Anyone who has read the book is welcome to attend.

Open House for Students and Families – Monday, November 22 from 4:30-6 p.m.
Delavan-Darien students of all ages and their families are invited to an Open House at Aram Public Library. Join us for refreshments and a story time for young visitors. Get your library card and meet our friendly staff. Do you know what happens to new books before they are put on the shelf? Where do you think books go when you put them in the book drop? Tour the library and have all your questions answered!

WANTED: Legos
Does your attic or basement contain a box of seldom- or never-used or Legos? The Library is beginning a Lego Club and needs your help gathering supplies. We’re collecting both new and used Lego building bricks and accessories. Contributions may be dropped off in the Children’s Department at any time. Donations to the Library are tax deductible.

Spiced Nuts!

The Friends of APL spiced nut sale begins Saturday, November 13. Saturdays, while supplies last, the Friends will sell spiced nuts in decorated gift bags at the library. Last year they sold out in early December, so buy early and stock up!

All library programs are free of charge and open to the public.

The library will be closed November 25 & 26.
