MANGA MANIA!
MANGA MANIA!
An APL guide for parents and fanatics alike!
D. Gray-man?
Godchild?
Wild One?
Dragon Head?
Pumpkin Scissors?
With names like these, one can conclude that Manga Mania has struck Aram Public Library! In sync with the graphic novel craze, manga (which are Japanese comics translated to English) has become in high demand by everyone ages 6 to 60. Highly recognizable by artwork that is often times magically gorgeous and other times uniquely dynamic, manga is the printed sibling of anime or the Japanese animation that is taking over the likes of Cartoon Network and other channels.
However, unlike American cartoons and comics, Japanese manga and anime is geared towards adults as well as children. Many shows and printed works feature violence, strong language, and other adult themes. Rest assured that as Aram Public Library expands its anime and manga collection, requests as well as potential purchases in general will be thoroughly researched and screened.
All anime and manga is rated, and these ratings will be taken into consideration along with the material. If you have any concerns about your child viewing Japanese graphic novels and the like, please feel free to speak with a librarian so that we can review the materials on our shelves together!
Interesting fact: Schools as well as parents all over the country are turning to manga and graphic novels in general to get their kids interested in reading. AND IT'S WORKING!
For anime/manga fanatics(freaks?): Have a purchase suggestion for us? Don't forget to scribble it down and stick it in the suggestion box near the teen section! Suggestions will be researched so that we can make sure materials are appropriate for our collection as well as popular enough that they will be checked out.
If you don't see your suggestion when searching the Aram collection via the online catalog, it may be because we did not purchase the materials for some reason. Talk to a librarian, and perhaps we will reconsider your suggestion or help you figure out how to obtain the materials elsewhere.
