December 2012 Events


FOR YOUTH AND FAMILIES

Storytime with Miss Kris
Tiny Tots Time, for children from birth through age 3, meets Wednesdays at 10 a.m.  Preschool Storytime, for children age 3 to 6, meets Fridays at 10 a.m.  Themes for this month are:
              December 5 and 7                  Manners
              December 12 and 14              Holiday Celebrations

December 14 will be the final storytime of 2012.  See you on January 9 or 11 for the beginning of a brand new year of stories and fun!

Family Movie: The Muppet Christmas Carol (G)
Saturday, December 1 @ 11:00 a.m. & 1:00 p.m.
A Muppet-tastic retelling of the classic Dickens tale of Ebenezer Scrooge, miser extraordinaire, who is held accountable for his dastardly ways during nighttime visitations by the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Future.  Sign up at the Children's Desk starting Thursday, November 29, at 9:30 am.  Snacks will be provided.

LEGO Club – Monday, December 3 and Monday, December 17 @ 4:00pm
Give our LEGO blocks a workout building anything from a dinosaur to a space ship.  Work in teams or individually, give your creation a name, then see it displayed in the Children’s Library.

Art Exploration Studio - Tuesday, December 11 @ 4:00pm
This month's medium: Play-doh!  We'll provide the materials, you provide the creativity!

Santa Visits the Library - Saturday, December 15 @ 1:00pm
Santa Claus is coming...to the library!  Bring the whole family for the chance to sit on St. Nick's lap and tell him your holiday wishes.  Parents, don't forget to bring your cameras!  We'll also be decorating holiday cookies!  All of the cookies, both for munching and decorating,will be provided by the Friends of the Aram Public Library.

FOR TEENS AND TWEENS
 
Duct Tape Creations - Wednesday, December 12 @ 6 p.m.
Let's just be honest, duct tape is cool.  Even cooler?  Making stuff out of it.  So come take advantage of the library's ample supply of duct tape and make something great: a wallet...a bag...jewelry...electronics covers...anything!  All materials provided.

Teen Book Club: Zombies vs. Unicorns 
Thursday, December 20th @ 4:00pm
It’s a question as old as time itself: Which is better, the zombie or the unicorn? This all-original, story collection makes strong arguments for both sides.  Discover how unicorns use their powers for evil, why zombies aren’t always the enemy, and much more in this creative, laugh-out-loud collection that will have everyone asking: Team Zombie or Team Unicorn?
Snacks will be provided.

Board Game Night - Thursday, December 27th @ 6:00pm
Looking for something fun to do during your holiday break?  Come by the library for a night of fun, games, and snacks!  We'll have an assortment of games for you to choose from, so round up some friends and stop by!

FOR ADULTS

Make-and-Take Holiday Decorations - Monday, December 3 @ 6:30 p.m.
Make a sparkly Christmas ornament and a gift box to hold it.  Class size is limited; registration is required.  All materials provided.




Molecular Gastronomy: Experiments with Food - Tuesday, December 4 @ 6 p.m.
Molecular gastronomy is the art and science of using physical and chemical transformations that occur while cooking to recreate ordinary dishes in extraordinary ways. Learn about the science behind the techniques used by great chefs, and experiment with ingredients in ways you’ve never imagined.  Class size is limited; registration is required.

Movie:  A Christmas Story 2 (PG) - Saturday, December 8 @ 12:30 to 2 p.m.
Ralphie and his friends Flick and Schwartz are almost old enough to drive, which means only one thing to the all-American teenager--and Ralphie has his heart set on a beauty of a car. Unfortunately, he wrecks it before it even leaves the lot, and he and his friends must find jobs to pay off the damage. Meanwhile, the Old Man continues fighting his suburban war, while Randy plays soldier, and Mother stands patiently by to clean up the battlefield.  Snacks will be provided.

Santa Paws:  Pet Food for Fines - December 1 to 30
Help the homeless animals at Lakeland Animal Shelter and reduce your overdue fines at the same time.  During the month of December, we’ll be collecting pet food (both canned and dry) and clay cat litter for the animal shelter.  In exchange for your donation, we’ll reduce your overdue fines.  This program does not apply to fees for lost or damaged items.

December 24, 25 and 31, 2012; January 1, 2013.

Library Hours:
Monday through Thursday, 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Saturday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Sunday, 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
