FOR YOUTH AND FAMILIES

Storytime with Miss Kris

·         Tiny Tots, for children from birth to 3 years old, meets Wednesdays at 10 a.m.

·         Preschool Storytime, for children age 3 to kindergarten, meets Fridays at 10 a.m.

Storytime with Miss Kris is an awesome opportunity for children and caregivers to spend quality time together. Each session includes stories, games, music and movement, plus early literacy and social skill building activities.  Themes for this month are:

• October 3 & 5            Numbers
• October 10 & 12       Dinosaurs
• October 17 & 19       Harvest Time
• October 24 & 26       Halloween
• October 31                 No storytime, but trick-or-treat at the library any time today.

LEGO Club – Monday, October 1 and 15 @ 4:00 p.m.

Give our LEGO blocks a workout building anything from a dinosaur to a space ship. Work in teams or individually, give your creation a name, then see it displayed in the children’s library.

Art Exploration Studio - Tuesday, October 9 @ 4:00 p.m.

This month, we're working with wooden objects!  Will you make a house out of Popsicle sticks or perhaps a grizzly bear made entirely of clothespins?  Maybe you have a completely different creation in mind?  It's up to you!  All materials will be provided.

 

Leaf Art - Wednesday, October 10 @ 1:00 p.m.

Celebrate the beauty of the season by creating art and/or decorations using actual leaves.  Some craft options will include paint, so dress to get messy!  All materials will be provided.

Charlotte's Web Party - Saturday, October 13 @ 1:00 p.m.

"That's some pig!"  This year marks the 60th anniversary of Charlotte's Web. Let’s celebrate!  Join us for some farmyard fun, including crafts and tasty snacks.

 

Pumpkin Painting & Decorating - Saturday, October 27 @ 10:00 a.m.

'Tis the season for adorning our homes with pumpkins and gourds.  Join us for some autumnal fun as we decorate pumpkins with paint, glitter, googly eyes, glue, and more!  All materials provided.  Space is limited, so registration is required.  Register at the Youth Desk starting on October 25 @ 9:30 a.m.

Family Movie: Hocus Pocus (PG) - Tuesday, October 30 @ 6:00 p.m.

After 300 years, three sister witches are resurrected in Salem, Massachusetts, on Halloween night, and it is up to two teenagers, a young girl, and an immortal cat to put an end to the witches' reign of terror once and for all.  Sign up at the Youth Desk starting Monday, October 29 at 9:30 a. m.  Snacks will be provided.

Trick-or-Treat at the Library - Wednesday, October 31, 9:30 a.m. - 8:00 p.m.

Happy Halloween!  Don your best costume and come by the library for some good old fashioned trick-or-treating fun!

Teen Book Club: The Monstrumologist - Thursday, October 18 @ 4:00 p.m.

These are the secrets I have kept. This is the trust I never betrayed. But  he is dead now and has been for nearly ninety years, the one who gave me his trust, the one for whom I kept these secrets. The one who saved me . . . and the one who cursed me.

So starts the diary of Will Henry, orphan and assistant to a doctor with a most unusual specialty: monster hunting. In the short time he has lived with the doctor, Will has grown accustomed to his late night callers and dangerous business. But when one visitor comes with the body of a young girl and the monster that was eating her, Will's world is about to change forever. The doctor has discovered a baby Anthropophagus--a headless monster that feeds through a mouth in its chest--and it signals a growing number of Anthropophagi. Now, Will and the doctor must face the horror threatening to overtake and consume our world before it is too late.  Snacks will be provided.

Pumpkin Washing - Friday, October 26 @ 3:00 p.m.

Scrub-a-dub-dub, get these pumpkins in a tub!  Come by and help us wash pumpkins for Saturday's Pumpkin Painting & Decorating program.  We'll repay your hard work and kindness with a banquet of pizza and soda.  YUM!

FOR ADULTS

Knitting Club – 1^st and 2^nd Monday, 3^rd and 4^th Wednesday at 6 p.m.

Led by instructor Nancy Lee, this group is for knitters of all ages and all skill levels. Bring your current project to work on. Experienced knitters are encouraged to attend and share your expertise with others.  Bring your own project to work on.

 

DIY:  Magnetic Memo Board - Tuesday, October 2 from 7 to 8 p.m.

A magnetic memo board is a nice alternative to a cork board or refrigerator magnets for displaying pictures, posting messages, and managing family information.  This mini memo board is also ideal for hanging on a doorknob.  Kids can claim their private space.  Parents can label the kitchen “Closed.”  This technique is easily adjusted for larger size boards. Children age 7 and older are welcome to attend with an adult, but the class is limited to 15 students.  All materials are provided, and REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED.

  

Make-and-Take Halloween Crafts – Sunday, October 14 at 1:30 p.m.

This Halloween, treat all the goblins at your house to a Halloween wand, guaranteed to cast invisible spells.  Halloween wands, when gathered in a bouquet, also offer powerful protection from night tricksters.   If you should find yourself in the company of a hungry vampire, our Halloween candy jar provides instant access to just what you’ll need to satisfy your fanged friend.  Children age 12 and older may attend with an adult.  Class is limited to 15 students. REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED.

 

Adult Book Club: The Dive from Clausen’s Pier by Ann Packer

Thursday, October 18 at 6:30 p.m. 

At the age of twenty-three Carrie Bell has spent her entire life in Wisconsin, with the same best friend and the same dependable, easygoing, high school sweetheart. Anime for Adults:  No. 6 - Saturday, October 20 at 1 p.m. (for age 16+)

We’ll be showing the first 5 episodes of No. 6 and serving refreshments.  Here’s what this anime series is about:  In a near future world after the last great war, most of mankind now lives in a handful of city states. There, for the privileged elite, life should be perfect. But for young Shion, the only thing perfect has been the nightmare his life has become since letting a strange boy called Rat spend the night in his apartment. Banished to the outskirts of the city and stripped of all privileges for helping the mysterious stranger who has since disappeared, Shion now finds himself in even worse danger as his inquiry into a new series of mysterious deaths results in his being arrested on suspicion of murder! But even as Shion is being sent to the city's Correctional Institute, the long missing Rat reappears to rescue him! Now, on the run, the two young men have only one chance at survival: uncover the mysterious secrets that lie at the sinister heart of No. 6!
