Book Review: World War Z
By Max Brooks
We survived the zombie apocalypse, but how many of us are still haunted by that terrible time? We have (temporarily?) defeated the living dead, but at what cost? Told in the haunting and riveting voices of the men and women who witnessed the horror firsthand, World War Z is the only record of the plague years.
The book paints an excellent picture of how counties, states, and humanity would likely respond in the event of a pandemic. While the literature provides an excellent plot aligned with the currently popular zombie phenomenon, the author's illustrations of human responses to disaster are unbelievably accurate. As a public health worke,r I found it especially accurate in its description of how quickly disease could be spread in our ever mobile society. I also really liked the descriptions of how rapidly, with a highly infective virus, the command necessary to sustain our comfortable way of life could crumble and survival instincts kick in. Written as an after account of the events World War Z is a book I would highly recommend to all. -- Review by EB
